Description
Cushing-Landolt Specula
The Cushing-Landolt specula are transsphenoidal specula. Surgeons insert the closed blades through the nose, then open them to hold a corridor toward the sphenoid sinus and the sella.
A speculum for the transsphenoidal route
Pituitary surgery through the nose needs a steady, open channel. For that reason, the two blades push the nasal tissue aside and keep it there. The surgeon then passes curettes, scoops and dissectors down the gap between them.
Three blade lengths
We offer three blade lengths: 70, 90 and 110 mm. Every blade measures 15 mm across, so only the reach changes. A shorter blade suits a shallow approach, while the 110 mm blade reaches further toward the sphenoid.
Working with Landolt instruments
These specula belong to the wider Landolt family of transsphenoidal tools. Many teams therefore stock them next to malleable curettes, scoops and enucleators. In addition, a separate spreader can open the blades wider once the speculum sits in place.
Choosing a blade length
First, think about the patients you usually treat and the depth you need. Next, compare the length with the speculum you already own. If you want help matching sizes, send us your current model and we will suggest one.
Caring for your Cushing-Landolt specula
Open the blades and rinse them straight after surgery. Then brush the inner faces and the area where the blades meet with a soft brush. Dry every surface before sterilizing, because trapped water leaves stains.

Ordering the specula
Our three-year warranty covers these specula for any fault in workmanship. Before shipping, we hand-check the blades in Atlanta. Our frequently asked questions cover returns, payment and cleaning. For steel quality, we point to ASTM F899, which covers the alloys in surgical instruments. To widen the blades in place, add the Landolt spreader for specula. Also, browse the full neurosurgery instrument category for related tools.
Intended for professional use in clinics and hospitals. The care and sterilization notes say how our speculum photos compare with stock and why steel holds nickel; the shipping details give transit times.
