Cottle Nasal Specula

The Cottle nasal speculum is a surgical speculum for septal and rhinoplasty work. Surgeons use a Cottle nasal speculum to spread the nostril and hold the mucosal flaps apart.

A surgical speculum

Unlike short clinic specula, the Cottle offers long blades that reach deep into the nose. Consequently, the Cottle opens the space between septal flaps. That view matters during septoplasty.

Five blades, two configurations

We offer blades of 90, 75, 50, 45 and 35 mm. Then each blade comes with a screw or without a screw, giving 10 options. The screw version typically lets the user hold the blades at a set opening.

Where it fits in surgery

After the incision, the surgeon places the Cottle between the septal flaps. Next, the blades open to expose cartilage and bone. Meanwhile, the other hand works with elevators or forceps.

Choosing blade length

Short blades suit the front of the septum and the vestibule. However, the 75 and 90 mm blades reach far back. Many surgeons stock two lengths, one short and one long. Also decide whether your team prefers the screw or the plain Cottle.

Caring for the Cottle

Rinse the blades and joint after the case. If you have the screw version, also clean around the screw. Then dry the Cottle and sterilize it.
