Description

Cone Retractor

The Cone retractor is a self-retaining retractor for holding scalp and wound edges apart. Neurosurgeons use it in cranial surgery, and it also suits small spinal and general incisions.

Self-retaining scalp retraction

After the scalp incision, the edges need to stay open. The Cone retractor grips each edge with its teeth and locks in place. As a result, the assistant’s hands stay free for suction and other tasks.

Lengths and teeth

We list lengths of 13, 13.5, 16.5, 20 and 25 cm, all with 3 x 4 teeth. The teeth come blunt or sharp, although not every length comes in both. In total, we offer eight options, so please check the size menu or ask us.

Typical placements

For example, a small burr hole incision may need only the 13 cm model. Meanwhile, a larger craniotomy flap may call for the 20 or 25 cm version. The retractor also appears in our retractors range.

Choosing length and tooth type

First, match the length to the size of your usual incision. Next, pick sharp teeth for a firm scalp grip. On the other hand, blunt teeth may suit thinner or more delicate tissue.

Caring for your Cone retractor

Open the retractor and rinse the teeth and ratchet right after the case. Also brush the hinge well, since hair and tissue can lodge there. Then dry it and sterilize it with the arms apart.

Order information

Should any retractor show poor workmanship, the three-year warranty covers it. In addition, we inspect every retractor by hand in Atlanta, including the ratchet. Explore our FAQ entries for common questions. The standard behind surgical steels is ASTM F899. For deeper spinal work, look at the Beckmann retractor. You can then browse the neurosurgery products page.

Professional use only. Photo guidance and a note on nickel in the alloy sit in our care and sterilization write-up. See the returns section if an item needs to come back.
