Description
Collin Bone and Rib Shear
The Collin rib shear gives a compact option for cutting ribs close to the surface. You can order it at 22 or 23 cm.
Short and controllable
A shorter shear keeps the surgeon’s hand near the cut. That way, small adjustments feel direct. Also, the compact size fits smaller trays with ease.
Where it helps
Surgeons use this shear to trim a rib end or take out a short segment during a thoracotomy. For example, it can smooth a rough edge before closure. It also suits chest wall work in smaller patients.
Collin versus longer patterns
Long rib shears reach deep but can feel heavy near the skin. Instead, the Collin rib shear stays nimble for surface work. Therefore many sets pair it with one longer model.
Two lengths
Both sizes do the same job, so order the one that fits your current trays. Plus, the 23 cm size gives a touch more leverage. Meanwhile, the 22 cm size packs a little tighter.
Looking after Collin rib shear
Soak the shear briefly if blood has dried near the pivot. Next, work a soft brush into the joint and along both edges. Finally, hand-dry it and keep it closed, away from micro instruments.
