Description
Castroviejo-Kalt Micro Needle Holder
The Castroviejo-Kalt needle holder joins two familiar ideas. It has the light spring handle of a Castroviejo and a jaw suited to firm needle control. This one comes in a single 13 cm length.
A Blend of Two Patterns
Castroviejo holders are known for their spring action. Kalt holders, by contrast, usually hold larger needles with a firm bite. So this hybrid suits surgeons who want a light touch without a flimsy grip.
Holding the Hybrid Like a Pencil
Rest the handle between thumb and fingers, like a pencil. Then squeeze gently to close the jaws. Because the motion is small, you can rotate the needle with your fingers alone.
- 13 cm length for close work
- Spring handle for a light feel
- Jaw built for a steady bite
- Fits most anterior trays
Typical Castroviejo-Kalt Sutures
In general, surgeons use micro holders like this for lid, conjunctival and corneal closures. However, very fine needles still need a delicate jaw, so match the holder to the suture size.
Castroviejo-Kalt Versus Other Holders
If you prefer a longer reach, look at a 14 or 15 cm Kalt-Arruga pattern. Meanwhile, the Castroviejo-Kalt needle holder sits between them, and for the smallest needles a fine Castroviejo jaw may suit you better.
Cleaning the Spring Handle
Open the jaws before washing so water reaches the joint. Then brush the jaw faces and rinse. After drying, lubricate the hinge lightly. Also check that the spring returns smoothly.
Shipped non-sterile, the holder can return to service once your team cleans and sterilizes it. Its stainless steel complies with ASTM F899, and we inspect each unit against our spec in the United States. This hybrid holder’s warranty: three years against manufacturing defects, hinge to tip. For a longer option, see the Kalt-Arruga micro needle holder. Explore our eye instrument line or check the ordering FAQs.
