Description
Caspar Laminectomy Rongeur Angled Up
The Caspar rongeur angled up removes bone and disc material from the spinal canal. Spine surgeons use it to widen openings in the lamina and to clear the disc space.
Upward angle for better reach
The jaw points upward from the shaft. As a result, the surgeon can bite bone and tissue that sits above the line of approach. This helps under the edges of the lamina, where a straight jaw cannot reach.
Lengths and bite sizes
We offer the Caspar rongeur angled up in 14, 16 and 18.5 cm lengths. Each length comes with a bite of 2 x 12, 3 x 12, 4 x 14, 5 x 14 or 6 x 16 mm. That gives fifteen combinations in total.
Use in spinal surgery
For instance, in lumbar microdiscectomy the surgeon may use a small bite to remove disc fragments. Then a larger bite can clear more material quickly. Similarly, cervical work often calls for shorter lengths and finer bites.
Choosing size and bite
First, choose a length that suits the depth of your usual approach. Next, choose the bite size based on how much material you remove at once. Many surgeons keep a narrow and a wide bite in the same length.
Caring for your Caspar rongeur angled up
Flush the jaws right after use, because disc and bone debris dries quickly. Then brush the joint and the jaw cups. Finally, dry the rongeur and sterilize it following your department’s protocol.
