Description
Caspar Exploration and Coagulation Hook
The Caspar coagulation hook is a fine probe for exploring tissue and coagulating small bleeders in spinal surgery. Surgeons often use it in microdiscectomy to probe around nerve roots and disc fragments.
Exploring and coagulating
The hook lets the surgeon feel for loose fragments and check spaces under the microscope. In addition, surgeons can touch a coagulation electrode to an insulated hook to seal small vessels. Because one tool does both jobs, fewer instrument changes are needed.
Figures and insulation
We sell the Caspar coagulation hook in four figures, numbered 1 to 4. Each figure has a different tip shape. Also, each comes insulated or non-insulated, giving eight options, all 25 cm long. Contact us for a drawing of the tip shapes.
Where it fits
For example, during a lumbar microdiscectomy the surgeon can probe the foramen for residual disc. Then, if a small vessel bleeds, the insulated version can help control it. Meanwhile, the non-insulated version serves purely as a probe.
Choosing your figures
Think about which tip shapes reach the spaces you explore most. If you coagulate with the hook, choose insulated versions. Otherwise, the non-insulated hook works well for probing. Many surgeons keep two or three figures.
Caring for your Caspar coagulation hook
Wipe the tip gently after use and rinse the shaft. Next, inspect the insulation for cracks or damage before each use. Finally, dry the hook thoroughly and protect the tip during sterilization.
