Description
Caspar Cervical Distractor
The Caspar cervical distractor spreads two vertebral bodies apart during anterior cervical surgery. Surgeons attach it to screws placed in the vertebrae above and below the disc.
Opening the disc space
In an anterior cervical discectomy, the surgeon needs room between the vertebrae. Therefore, the distractor pushes the screw heads apart and holds that position. As a result, the disc space stays open while the surgeon removes disc material and prepares for a graft.
Left or right version
We offer the distractor in left and right versions. The side you need depends on how your team sets up around the patient. If you are unsure which side suits your approach, ask us before you order.
Working with screws and drill guides
First, the surgeon places distraction screws in the vertebral bodies. Next, the distractor slides over the screw heads. Then the surgeon opens it gradually to the desired height. Many teams also keep a drill guide and a screwdriver in the same set.
Assembling a complete set
This distractor works only with suitable screws. So, check that your screws match before surgery. For example, you may want to order screws, a screwdriver and a drill guide together to keep the set consistent.
Caring for your Caspar cervical distractor
Rinse the distractor straight after use and flush any moving parts. Then brush the arms and threads carefully. Finally, dry it and check that it opens and closes smoothly before sterilization.
