Description
Carolin Retractor
The Carolin retractor holds tissue edges open with a steady hand pull. Three lengths cover superficial and deeper work.
Three lengths
We offer 11, 15.5 and 16.5 cm. Also, the 11 cm suits small, superficial fields. Meanwhile, the longer ones reach a little deeper.
Where the Carolin retractor is used
Plastic and breast teams reach for it often. Additionally, hand and face cases call for it as well. In addition, many trays carry two lengths.
Handling
Hold the handle low and pull gently. Reposition as needed. Also, avoid too much force on thin tissue.
Choosing a length
Pick the shortest length that reaches the field. Furthermore, that keeps the tool light and precise. Then add a longer one for deeper work.
Pairing
Use it opposite a skin hook or another retractor. Together they open a clear view.
Matching length to depth
For instance, the 11 cm length suits eyelid and hand work. In contrast, the 15.5 and 16.5 cm lengths suit breast and abdominal wall work. As a result, a small set of two lengths covers most plastic cases.

How we protect each retractor
Our written warranty for the retractor spans three years against manufacturing defects from receipt. A staff member in Atlanta assesses each retractor closely before sealing the box. For a similar job, view our Fischl retractor. Most hospitals keep an extra retractor for busy lists. Further options feature in the general instrument list. With a general query, read our help page. For more on steels for surgery, read ASTM F899.
