The Caplan septum scissors are double action nasal scissors. ENT and plastic surgeons use Caplan septum scissors to cut septal cartilage and bone during septoplasty and rhinoplasty.

What double action means

In a double action design, a linkage moves both blades as the handles close. As a result, the jaws open wide inside the nose while the handles travel less. Many surgeons find this helpful in a narrow nasal passage.

A single 20 cm length

We offer one version with an overall length of 20 cm. That length reaches the deeper parts of the septum comfortably. For blade dimensions, send us a message and we will measure one.

Typical nasal uses

Surgeons often use these scissors to separate the septum from the nasal floor or to trim a deviated section. For instance, they may cut a strip of cartilage for a graft. Then a morselizer can flatten that strip.

Choosing Caplan or Killian

Both patterns cut septal tissue, but the Caplan adds the double action linkage. So surgeons who want more jaw movement in a small space often prefer it. Others simply stay with the pattern they trained on.

Caring for the Caplan

The linkage has more joints than a simple scissors, therefore clean it carefully. First, rinse it right after use. Next, brush every joint with the blades open, then dry the scissors fully before sterilization.
