Bunge Chalazion Scoop
The Bunge chalazion scoop is a small cupped hand tool for minor lid surgery. You can order figure 1, 2 or 3. Each figure sets the scoop size, so you can match it to the lesion in front of you.
What the scoop does
When an eyelid oil gland blocks, it can swell into a firm lump called a chalazion. After the surgeon opens it, the contents need clearing. A scoop lifts this material out with gentle sweeps. Because the cup is smooth and rounded, it clears the cavity without cutting deep into the lid.
Choosing figure 1, 2 or 3
Smaller figures suit small lesions and tight spaces. Larger figures clear a bigger cavity in fewer passes. Many clinics stock all three, so the surgeon can pick on the day. In addition, a full set means a spare is close at hand if one is out for cleaning.
Bunge scoop in a lid tray
- Chalazion clamp to hold the lid and control bleeding
- Blade to open the gland
- Bunge scoop to clear the contents
- Fine forceps for any loose tissue
Technique pointers
Hold the scoop like a pen. Then sweep from the edges of the cavity toward the center. Also keep each pass gentle, because the lid is thin and bruises easily.
Cleaning the Bunge cup
Material can dry hard inside the Bunge cup. So flush each figure promptly and brush the inside well. Then dry it and check the rim for nicks before sterilization.
Bunge scoops ship non-sterile; each figure turns reusable once cleaned and sterilized. All three figures use stainless meeting ASTM F899. We back every Bunge figure for three years against manufacturing defects; Bunge rims included. See our ophthalmic and lid surgery range, the Nightingale curette, or our FAQ help page.
