Three widths set the Bowman eye knife apart: 0.4 mm, 0.8 mm and standard. Every version shares a 13 cm steel handle and can be reused for years. That choice makes it one of the more flexible blades in our range.

• 0.8 mm: a little broader for slightly larger cuts.

How to Choose a Width

Match the blade width to the size of incision you plan. A narrow blade makes a small, tidy opening. By contrast, a broader blade covers more ground in one pass. Many surgeons keep two widths on hand.

Bowman and Corneal Anatomy

William Bowman was a great 19th century London surgeon. He described a layer of the cornea that still bears his name. Several fine tools carry it too. This knife continues that line.

Narrow Blades Need Extra Care

The 0.4 mm blade is especially fragile. So guard each width in storage and never let it touch other tools. Clean it in a holder. Then check the tip and edge under the microscope.

Labeling Each Width

Three widths look alike at a glance. Therefore, label each guard or slot with its width. Staff can then grab the right one fast. It also stops a narrow blade from being swapped by mistake.

Stocking Bowman Widths

Most units start with the standard width. Then they add 0.4 mm or 0.8 mm once they know their needs. For example, a unit doing many small entries may favor the narrowest. Meanwhile, keep at least one spare of the width you use most.
