Description
Cloward-Hibbs-Spratt Spinal Fusion Bone Curette
The Cloward-Hibbs-Spratt curette is a long instrument built for spinal fusion. It clears disc tissue and scrapes endplates so a fusion can take.
Three names, one purpose
Ralph Cloward, Russell Hibbs and the Spratt pattern each shaped spinal surgery. This curette combines their ideas in one design. As a result, it offers reach, stiffness and a sharp cup.
Nine figures
The range opens with three zero figures and continues with 1 through 6. Those zero figures carry the smallest cups. Meanwhile, figure 6 clears the largest spaces.
Using the Cloward-Hibbs-Spratt curette
Insert the cup into the disc space and pull it along the endplate. Then clear the debris and repeat. Because the shank is long, the hand stays clear of the wound.
Building a fusion set
Many spine trays carry four or five figures. For example, 00, 1, 3 and 5 cover a wide range. Add more as your cases require.
Endplate care
Remove cartilage fully, but avoid cutting deep into the endplate bone. Otherwise the implant or graft may sink. So use firm but controlled strokes and check progress often.

- Long shank for spinal work
- Sharp cup for endplate preparation

Reprocessing
Disc tissue clings tightly, so soak and brush the cups soon after use. Then rinse and dry every figure. Inspect the rims before each case.
Buying the right curette
A staff member in Atlanta reviews the Cloward-Hibbs-Spratt pattern by hand prior to packing. When the curette shows an assembly issue, you still have three years against manufacturing defects. Want a second opinion on sizing? Drop us a line. Steel for surgical tools has a dedicated standard: ASTM F899. A spare curette on the shelf saves a cancelled case.
