Description
Blow Pipe
The blow pipe is a narrow metal tube for directing air into tissue or a cavity. Anatomists use it to inflate structures and show spaces.
Single or double
The single pipe has one channel. In contrast, the double pipe has two, so air can enter and leave. Moreover, both run 23 cm long, which keeps the hand well away from the specimen.
Uses of a blow pipe
Anatomy teachers use it to inflate lungs and bowel during dissection. Pathologists use it to show passages. It also helps in some lab demonstrations.
Why steel
Steel tolerates repeated cleaning and sterilising. In addition, it stays straight and rigid. Therefore, airflow stays predictable.
Using it well
Insert the tip gently into the opening. Then blow in short, controlled puffs. Watch the tissue rather than forcing air, and stop as soon as the structure fills.
Hygiene
Use a clean pipe for each specimen. Fit a filter or mouthpiece if your protocol requires one. Afterwards, clean it at once.
Using it in the lab
First, seat the tip gently in the opening. Next, blow in short, steady puffs and watch the structure fill. After that, pinch the tissue around the tip if you need to hold the air in place.
Blow pipe options
- 23 cm length
- Single or double tube
- Reusable steel
Cleaning
Flush the bore with water and detergent. Brush it with a fine wire. Then dry with air.
Why we stand behind each instrument
A staff member in Atlanta goes over each instrument by hand before it leaves. Our written warranty protecting this item runs three years against manufacturing defects with every order. Also consider our skin trephines. Our questions page goes over orders, shipping and returns. For a primer on surgical-grade stainless, review ASTM F899. Related pieces are in the general surgical department. We also check sizes for new trays.
For hospital and clinic use. The care and sterilization guide discusses why photos vary together with nickel content. Refund rules go by our refund policy.
