Barbara Micro Ear Hook

The Barbara micro ear hook is a tiny hook for otologic microsurgery. Surgeons use it to catch and draw small structures, such as a graft edge or the wire loop of a prosthesis.

What a hook adds

Needles and picks push tissue away from the surgeon. A hook, however, lets them pull tissue back toward themselves. That extra movement helps when a graft slips under the drum edge.

Two tip sizes

We offer the hook with a 1 mm or a 0.5 mm tip. The finer tip reaches into the tightest gaps. The 1 mm tip, meanwhile, holds a little more tissue with each pull.

Typical steps

During ossicular repair, the surgeon may hook a prosthesis loop onto the incus. Also, in tympanoplasty, the hook can tease a graft into its final place. Many surgeons keep one hook within reach through the whole case.

Choosing between tips

If most of your work involves stapes prostheses, the 0.5 mm tip may suit you. Otherwise, the 1 mm tip gives a sturdier all-round hook. Buying both lets you switch as needed.

Caring for your Barbara micro ear hook

Wash the hook right after the case with a soft, fine brush. Next, rinse off any detergent and dry the tip gently. Before sterilizing, slide a small protective sleeve over the hook.
