Auvard Vaginal Speculum and Retractor

The Auvard speculum and retractor holds back the posterior wall with a weight. That 1.14 kg weight detaches for cleaning or storage.

Detachable weight

Remove the weight after surgery to clean each part on its own. So nothing hides where the weight meets the blade. Also, the separate pieces store more easily in a standard tray or cabinet.

Two blade lengths

Choose an 83 x 38 mm blade or a longer 102 x 45 mm blade. Both take the same 1.14 kg weight. Then match the blade length to the depth of the vaginal procedure you have planned.

Hands-free hold

Once in place, the weighted blade stays down on the posterior wall by itself. Therefore, your assistant gains a free hand for suction or other tasks. Meanwhile, the view of the operative field stays open.

Fixed or detachable

A fixed-weight Auvard stays in one piece at all times. However, many departments prefer this Auvard speculum and retractor because the weight comes off. As a result, sterile processing can handle each part more easily.

Care of Auvard speculum and retractor

Detach the weight first, then wash the blade and weight apart. Next, brush the connection point, since residue can gather there. Finally, dry both parts and store them together so they stay paired.
