Description
Anderson Retractor
The Anderson retractor is a small rake with sharp prongs. It grips the underside of a skin flap firmly, so the surgeon can lift and hold it during dissection.
Prong choices
You can choose three prongs or five prongs. Three prongs give a narrow, focused hold. Meanwhile, five prongs spread the pull over a wider edge.
Lengths of the Anderson retractor
It comes 8 cm or 10 cm long. The shorter one suits eyelid and lip work. By contrast, the 10 cm length reaches across a facelift flap.
Sharp prongs
Sharp tips bite into the flap with very little force. As a result, the grip stays secure even on slippery tissue. However, they need careful handling near thin skin.
Typical procedures
Facelift, neck lift and scar revision use it often. For instance, it holds the cheek flap while the surgeon frees the deeper layer. It also helps in hand and breast work.
Holding tips
Hook the prongs under the dermis, never through the skin surface. Then lift steadily rather than pulling sideways. Also, pass it with the prongs facing down.
