Description
Young Tongue Seizing Forceps, Rubber Jaws, 16 cm
Sometimes the tongue must be held, not just pushed aside. Young tongue seizing forceps let the clinician grasp it directly and keep it steady. This version carries rubber jaws and measures 16 cm, or 6-1/4 inches, as our supplier catalogue lists it.
Why the Jaws Are Rubber
Bare metal teeth can mark soft tissue. Rubber jaws instead spread the grip over a wider, softer surface. As a result, the forceps hold the tongue securely while treating it gently. Note that the rubber jaws are a separate material from the steel frame, and they will wear over time.
When to Grasp Rather Than Retract
A flat retractor works for most lingual access. However, some situations call for a firmer hold, for example when the tongue is large or the patient cannot keep it still under sedation. In those cases, tongue seizing forceps give the team positive control. They also free the assistant from constant repositioning.
Replacing Worn Tips
Check the rubber surfaces after each cycle. If they crack, harden or loosen, swap them for new ones rather than continue to use the forceps. Then the grip stays consistent and the steel frame stays in service for years.
Reprocessing a Mixed-Material Tool
Clean the jaws and the box joint carefully, because debris collects where rubber meets metal. Also, follow your sterilizer guidance for rubber components and avoid harsh chemicals that may degrade them.
Before dispatch, every pair of Young forceps is checked in the United States for jaw alignment and a smooth closing action. The steel frame and box joint are covered for three years against manufacturing defects, while the rubber tips are wear parts. It comes non-sterile, so reprocess it before patient use.
Frame steel follows ASTM F899 for surgical stainless frames. Find more holding tools in our surgical retractors department, and keep spares ready with the replacement rubber tips, 2 per set. Order help is on our FAQ page for buyers.
