Description
Sachs Dura Hook
With the Sachs dura hook, the surgeon raises the dura off the brain or spinal cord. Surgeons then make the first cut in the dura with less risk to the tissue below.
Lifting before cutting
Opening the dura calls for care, because the brain surface lies right underneath. So the surgeon catches the dura with the sharp hook and tents it upward. Next, a blade or scissors starts the opening safely.
Size and tip
We list the Sachs hook at 18 cm with a sharp tip. That length handles well in cranial wounds and in spinal exposures. If you need tip measurements, just ask and we will send them.
During the operation
Surgeons usually reach for the hook right after the bone work ends. Then it holds the dural edge while the incision extends. Later, it can also help with dural closure by presenting the edge.
Choosing a dura hook
Dura hooks vary in length and tip, for instance sharp or blunt. Because this one is sharp, it grips thin dura securely. If you prefer a blunt tip, ask us about other patterns.
Caring for your Sachs dura hook
Protect the sharp tip from knocks during cleaning. Rinse it after use, then clean it gently with a soft brush and neutral solution. Afterward, dry it well and sterilize it with a tip guard.
