Description
Ombredanne Mallet
The Ombredanne mallet is a heavier hammer, 23 cm long and about 550 g. It drives osteotomes and impactors through dense bone with fewer blows.
Weight where it counts
A heavier head carries more energy into the blade. So dense cortex yields with fewer strikes. That saves time during long-bone and pelvic work.
Size
The mallet measures 23 cm and weighs around 550 g. Therefore it sits at the heavier end of our general mallets. It still swings comfortably thanks to its balance.
Who uses the Ombredanne mallet
Orthopedic and trauma surgeons use it for osteotomies and impaction. Pediatric orthopedic teams also know the name, since Louis Ombredanne worked in children’s surgery. It suits any case with dense bone.
Control with a heavy mallet
Start with lighter taps to seat the blade. Then build up force only as needed. Because the head is heavy, small changes in swing make a big difference.
Heavy mallets on long lists
Fewer, heavier blows can shorten a long osteotomy. However, they also demand care, since force rises quickly. Therefore build up gently and watch the blade at every strike.

Warranty and help
An inspector in Atlanta checks the mallet one at a time before it ships. Every order gets three years against manufacturing defects on every mallet by default. The FDA recognizes ASTM F899 under stainless steel in surgical tools. Need a size we do not list? Email our team before you order. Surgeons often add the Bergmann mallet. A backup mallet in stores covers reprocessing gaps. Further designs appear in our orthopedic collection. For payment questions, read the FAQ page.
