Love-Gruenwald Laminectomy Rongeur
The Love-Gruenwald rongeur is a pituitary-style rongeur for removing disc material and soft tissue in spinal surgery. Surgeons use it during discectomy and laminectomy to grasp and pull out fragments.
Grasping jaws for disc work
Disc material is soft and fibrous, so it needs jaws that grip and pull. Therefore the Love-Gruenwald pattern uses small cup jaws. The 3 x 10 mm bite takes a controlled piece with each pass.
Nine options
We offer three lengths: 12, 15 or 18 cm. Next, choose the jaw angle: straight, 45-degree up or 45-degree down. All versions share the 3 x 10 mm bite. As a result, the Love-Gruenwald rongeur comes in nine combinations.
Using angles well
Straight jaws reach directly into the disc space. In contrast, the up and down angles help the surgeon reach fragments above or below the entry point. For example, a migrated fragment may need an angled jaw.
What to stock
Most spine sets carry a straight jaw plus at least one angled version. Also, the length should match your usual wound depth. We can suggest a set if you tell us your case mix.
Caring for your Love-Gruenwald rongeur
Open the jaws and clear disc material right away. Then brush the cups and the joint, and rinse well. Afterward, dry it, lubricate the joint, and sterilize it.
