Description
Loute Bone Wire Tighteners
The Loute wire tightener tensions and twists cerclage wire around bone. Its 20 cm length suits most long-bone exposures.
Tension and twist
First, the tightener pulls the wire snug. Then it twists the ends to lock the tension. As a result, the cerclage holds firmly.
Size
At 20 cm, the tool is slightly shorter than some tighteners. Therefore it suits shallower exposures. It also feels easy to control.
Who uses the Loute wire tightener
Fracture surgeons rely on it for long-bone wiring. Also, patella and olecranon wiring benefit from it. It suits osteotomy fixation.
Twisting technique
Twist slowly and evenly while maintaining tension. Then stop before the wire weakens. Cut the excess and bend the twist down.
Choosing a tightener
Different tighteners suit different hands and habits. Consequently, some surgeons prefer the Loute for its size. Others use the Parham.
Wire gauge and tension
Thicker wire tolerates more tension, whereas thin wire snaps sooner. Therefore adjust tension to the wire you use. Practice on spare wire helps.

Our pledge for your tightener
Every tightener keeps protection running three years against manufacturing defects as standard. Each tightener goes through a personal look in Atlanta before it ships. We gladly suggest an option for larger orders. For a summary of instrument alloys, go to ASTM F899. Matching tools sit in our orthopedic department. Larger departments stock two of these for busy lists. For payment questions, scan our FAQs. For a related option, explore the Parham tightener.
