The Joll retractor, also known as the Friedman retractor, is a self-retaining retractor for neck surgery. Surgeons use it mainly in thyroidectomy to hold the skin flaps apart.

Self-retaining design

A self-retaining retractor holds itself open once set. As a result, no assistant needs to pull on it throughout the case. That frees hands for other tasks at the table.

Thyroid and neck surgery
