Description
Jensen Capsule Polisher
The Jensen capsule polisher is a fine 27 gauge irrigating tool for cleaning the posterior capsule. Its slim shaft passes through small side ports with ease. As a result, it suits small incision cataract work where space is tight.
Why 27 gauge matters
A 27 gauge shaft is thin, so it enters a paracentesis without stretching the wound. It also gives a soft, controlled flow. On the other hand, it moves less fluid than a wider tube. So it works best for fine polishing rather than bulk rinsing. For heavy cortex, finish the main cleanup first, then bring in the Jensen tip for detail.
The Jensen tip
The Jensen pattern uses a small polishing tip at the end of the shaft. It lets you work on residual cells near the center and mid periphery. Main points:
- Size: 27 gauge
- Small polishing tip
- Irrigating bore
- Fits a standard syringe
Working through a side port
Enter with the tip parallel to the iris plane. Then turn the tip toward the capsule once inside. Light, sweeping motions work best. Also, keep the bag filled so the capsule stays taut.
Care for a fine shaft
Fine shafts bend if they hit the edge of a tray, so handle them one at a time. After use, flush the bore at once and soak it in a mild cleaner. Then rinse and dry it. The polisher ships non-sterile and is reusable after you sterilize it.
