Description
Iowa Trumpet W/Needle (Complete)
The Iowa trumpet is a needle guide for transvaginal pudendal nerve block. This complete version comes with its needle and measures about 14 cm.
How the guide works
The clinician places the trumpet tip against the vaginal wall near the ischial spine. Then the needle passes through the guide toward the pudendal nerve. So the anesthetic reaches the intended area.
Depth control
The trumpet limits how far the needle can extend past its tip. Therefore the clinician controls depth more easily. Also, the guide keeps the needle on a steady path.
Complete with needle
This listing includes the needle along with the trumpet. So you can set up the block without sourcing parts separately. Plus, the pair arrives ready to reprocess and use.
Using the Iowa trumpet
Obstetric teams use the Iowa trumpet for pain relief in the second stage of labor. However, local protocols decide when to use it. Then keep one complete set in each delivery area.
Reprocessing Iowa trumpet
Take the needle out of the trumpet before cleaning so both parts get full contact with the solution. Next, flush the needle and the trumpet channel. Then dry each part fully and keep the trumpet and needle in one pouch so the set stays matched.
