Description
Heath Chalazion Curette
The Heath chalazion curette has a small, sharp cup on a slim handle. It scoops out the soft contents of a chalazion once the cyst is open. Because the cup is small, it reaches into the cavity with little harm to the lid.
The Heath cup and its edge
The cup has a sharp rim that scrapes the cavity wall clean. You draw it toward you in short strokes, then lift the debris out. In practice, a few passes clear most small lesions.
A typical chalazion case, step by step
First, a clamp steadies the lid and controls bleeding. Next, a small cut opens the cyst, usually from the inner lid. Then the curette clears the gel and the lining. Finally, the clamp comes off and gentle pressure settles the lid.
Why clinics keep a Heath on hand
Small lid procedures come up often, so a simple tool earns its spot:
- It fits the minor procedures tray with ease
- The thin handle stays out of your view
- One cup covers many small cysts
- It cleans quickly between cases
Heath versus larger chalazion curettes
Larger curettes clear big lesions faster. However, a small cup like the Heath gives more control in a tight cavity. Many clinics therefore keep it next to a wider curette and choose by lesion size on the day.
Keeping the curette rim sharp
A dull rim smears tissue rather than lifting it. So avoid letting the cup strike other steel, and do not pry with it. After use, brush the inside of the cup, since debris hides there.
Before you order a Heath curette
Each Heath chalazion curette comes unsterile, so give the cup a scrub and a sterilizing cycle before any lid case; then it serves again for later cysts. Heath cups follow our own drawing, in surgical stainless that meets ASTM F899, with a final look-over in the United States. Our cover on this lid curette runs three years against manufacturing defects.
