Hajek-Koffler Punch Forceps

The Hajek-Koffler punch forceps is a sinus bone punch. Surgeons commonly reach the sphenoid and nearby sinus walls with it, then take small, clean bites of bone to open them up.

Why ENT surgeons reach for it

Sinus bone is thin, and the structures behind it deserve respect. Therefore a punch that removes bone in small, predictable bites helps the surgeon widen an opening gradually. This pattern has served that purpose in sinus surgery for many years.

Eight combinations to choose from

Three option axes give eight versions in all. First, pick the direction: Upward or Downward. Next, choose a bite of 4 x 4 mm or 3.5 x 3.5 mm. Finally, select the Standard type or the Rotatable type.

Standard or Rotatable

The Rotatable type lets the user turn the working end, so the bite can face the bone without twisting the wrist. Meanwhile, the Standard type keeps things simple for routine cases. Some surgeons keep one of each on the same tray.

Building a sensible pair

Caring for your sinus punch

Rinse the jaws immediately after surgery because dried bone fragments stick hard. Then brush the joint and, on the rotatable version, the turning section as well. Dry everything thoroughly before sterilization and storage.
