The Freer skin hook is a fine, sharp hook for lifting skin edges. Surgeons use it in rhinoplasty and facial plastic surgery to hold a flap up while they dissect beneath it.

What a sharp hook does

A sharp point engages the skin edge with very little force. As a result, the surgeon can raise a flap without crushing it, as forceps might. The hook also leaves the field open, since it takes up little space.

Protect the point on the tray and during cleaning, because a bent tip no longer grips cleanly. Wash it by hand or in an ultrasonic bath. Finally, dry it well and sterilize it with a tip guard in place.
