Description
Dermot Pierse Skeleton Forceps
Dermot Pierse skeleton forceps are a fine fixation forceps in a skeleton pattern. Like the Colibri version, they come in three tooth sizes from 0.2mm to 0.4mm. They help steady the eye during fine work.
About the skeleton pattern
We list this as the skeleton version of the Dermot Pierse forceps. Its frame differs from the Colibri version, so the feel in the hand changes. Please check the photos to see the shape. If you are unsure which one suits you, ask our team before you order.
Three tooth sizes
The tooth size sets the bite on tissue.
- 0.2mm teeth for thin, delicate tissue.
- 0.3mm teeth for most general fixation.
- 0.4mm teeth when you want a firmer hold.
When fixation matters
Some steps need the eye to stay perfectly still. For example, a surgeon may grip near the limbus while making an incision. Then the eye cannot roll away from the blade. Also, the forceps can hold a wound edge during closure.
Choosing between the two versions
Both Dermot Pierse forceps share tooth sizes. So the choice comes down to the shape and how it sits in your hand. Some surgeons keep one of each and then reach for the one that suits the step.
Reprocessing steps
Start with a rinse to remove blood and fluid. Next, brush the teeth softly and flush the joint. After drying, check the teeth under a loupe. Store with a guard so the teeth do not catch on other tools.
Order and cover
Skeleton forceps come non-sterile and are reusable after your usual reprocessing. Buyers of the skeleton pattern have three years against manufacturing defects on every tooth size. Skeleton forceps steel meets ASTM F899. To compare, see the Colibri version. Then browse our ophthalmic forceps and tools and our frequent buyer questions.
