Description
Cloward Lamina Spreader
The Cloward lamina spreader pushes adjacent bony elements of the spine apart. Surgeons place it to widen the interlaminar or intervertebral space and gain working room.
What spreading achieves
Spinal gaps are often tight, especially in degenerative disease. Consequently, a spreader opens them gently and holds them open. The surgeon then has more room for rongeurs, curettes and dissectors.
A compact 15 cm model
We carry this spreader at 15 cm. The short frame sits low in the wound and stays out of the way. Want the jaw width or opening range? Ask, and we will put calipers on a stock unit.
How surgeons apply it
After muscle retraction, the surgeon seats the jaws against the bone on each side. Next, the spreader opens step by step. Meanwhile, the surgeon watches the gap and stops at the needed width. We also sell a separate 13 cm Cloward model with an 18 mm blade opening.
Choosing between spreaders
Consider the space you usually open and the room around it. For example, a smaller frame suits cervical work, while bigger patterns suit the lumbar spine. If you are unsure, compare our spreader models side by side.
Caring for your Cloward lamina spreader
Open the spreader fully and rinse the jaws, joint and any ratchet. Then brush out bone dust with a small brush. Also confirm that it opens and closes freely before drying and sterilization.
