Description
Castroviejo Suture Forceps, 1×2 Teeth
Castroviejo 1×2 suture forceps hold tissue firmly while you pass a suture. The tip has one tooth on one side and two on the other. We offer five widths, from 0.12mm to 1.50mm.
How 1×2 teeth grip
When the tips close, the single tooth fits between the two opposite teeth. So the tissue sits locked in a tiny triangle. This hold stops it slipping, yet it uses little force. As a result, the tissue stays steady while the needle passes.
Five widths, five tasks
Width refers to the size of the toothed tip. Narrow tips suit fine tissue, while wider ones hold more.
- 0.12mm: the finest, often for corneal work.
- 0.30mm and 0.50mm: general use on the eye.
- 1.00mm and 1.50mm: firmer tissue and larger bites.
Tying as well as holding
Many Castroviejo suture forceps also have a flat area behind the teeth. In practice, this lets surgeons tie with the same tool. So one forceps can hold the edge and then help tie the knot. Check the photos for the tip form.
Where surgeons use them
Castroviejo 1×2 suture forceps suit wound closure in the cornea and sclera. They also hold conjunctiva and other fine tissue. Because the range runs from very fine to firm, one family covers many steps.
Protecting the teeth
Teeth this small bend with rough use. So never use them to grip a needle. After surgery, brush the teeth softly. Then check them under a loupe before packing.
