Description
Castroviejo Micro Scissors
Castroviejo micro scissors pair a spring handle with small, fine blades. They suit careful cuts under the microscope, in eye work and beyond. You can pick a 12cm or a 15cm length.
The spring handle in use
Two flat handles sit apart on a spring. You hold them like a pen and squeeze to cut. Then the spring opens the blades again. So your hand makes small, calm moves, which helps when every cut counts.
12cm or 15cm
Both lengths share the same small blades. The difference lies in reach and balance.
- 12cm: close work, with the hand near the field.
- 15cm: more reach, and room for a larger hand.
- Many surgeons keep both lengths on the tray.
The 15cm pair also comes in two further builds. One has straight blades. The other keeps the curve but adds tungsten carbide cutting edges, which stay keen far longer. Each build offers sharp/sharp or blunt/blunt points.
Tasks that suit micro scissors
Eye surgeons often use micro scissors to trim fine tissue, cut sutures or open thin layers. In addition, surgeons in other fields use them for small vessels and nerves. In short, they help wherever a large pair would be clumsy.
Telling them apart from other Castroviejo scissors
We sell several Castroviejo scissors. The corneal and tenotomy pairs offer left and right versions. These micro scissors, by contrast, focus on length. So pick them when you want a general fine cutter rather than a side-specific one.
Caring for small blades
Clean the blades right after use, since dried fluid dulls the edge. Next, clear the pivot and spring with a brush. Allow them to air dry. Before packing, test the cut on a thin glove scrap.
Ordering micro scissors
Micro scissors leave us non-sterile; clean and sterilize them, and they stay fit for many lists. Castroviejo micro blades come with three years against manufacturing defects in either length. Micro scissor steel meets ASTM F899. For a smaller spring pair, compare the Vannas scissors. Browse our microsurgery and eye tools and our frequently asked questions.
