Description
Barraquer Micro Needle Holder
Our Barraquer micro needle holder is light and slim, which suits fine suture work under the microscope. Six lengths give you plenty of choice. In addition, you can choose the jaw shape and jaw metal.
Seven lengths from 10cm to 18cm
The range runs 10cm, 11.5cm, 13cm, 13.5cm, 14cm, 15cm and 18cm. Small steps let you match the holder to your hand and your usual reach. So a surgeon with a small grip may favor 10cm to 11.5cm. Meanwhile, others pick 15cm or 18cm for added reach.
How the spring handle works
The handle opens on its own spring. You squeeze to close the jaws and relax to release. Because there is no ratchet to click, the needle lets go smoothly. This suits fine work where a jolt could tear tissue.
Steel or tungsten carbide jaws
This choice affects grip and wear.
- Stainless steel jaws: a light, all-round option.
- Tungsten carbide jaws: a hard face that holds needles firmly.
- Carbide also tends to keep its grip over many cycles.
Curved or straight, and why
Curved jaws help you see the needle point as it enters. Straight jaws give a direct, simple line. Many units stock both, then let each surgeon choose. If you are unsure, start with curved, since it suits most fine closures.
Who it suits best
Surgeons who close small wounds with fine nylon often favor this pattern. Its light weight helps on long lists. Also, the smooth spring release suits those who dislike a ratchet. If you use heavier needles, though, a sturdier holder may serve you better.
Getting a Barraquer holder
